Chef Matthew Sullivan and Sommelier Zinta Steprans.

Toronto has been going through an exciting time as of late, with so many new independent restaurants opening and so many talented young chefs organising exciting pop-up ventures in quirky little spots all over town.

From the mighty Charlie’s Burgers, through the Secret Pickle Events, to Guy Rawlings furtive Apartment project, the city is buzzing with culinary creativity these days.

Enter Chef Matt Sullivan, ex of Malena, who has decided to do his own thing for a bit through his Boxed evenings.

We joined Chef Sullivan at his most recent event where he was joined by GFR favourite Sommelier Zinta Steprans. Together they served a delightful asian-themed eight course menu accompanied by some carefully selected wines at Toronto’s cosy Ortolan restaurant.

The evening was a great success, and a complete steal at $90 a head for both food and matching wines (ex of gratuity).

We’ll be keeping our ear to the ground for Chef Sullivan’s next event. Follow him @boxedtoronto for further details.
