Opas Gose Graphic

At Beau’s All Natural Brewing, we have just released our latest beer creation, called Opa’s Gose, into select LCBO stores, beginning last Thursday, July 11. An unfiltered wheat beer brewed with sea salt and coriander, Opa’s Gose is tart with mild citrusy notes and a unique salty character. Each bottle will come with a custom Beau’s drawstring bag containing sea salt to be added according to the customer’s taste after the beer is poured.

Opas Gose BottleOpa’s Gose is a revival of an ancient beer style that originated in and around the Saxon capital of Leipzig, Germany. The Gose style takes its name from a river that flows through the town of Goslar, in Lower Saxony. The saltiness, which typifies the style, is attributable to the mineral-rich aquifers that supplied the water for brewhouses in the region.

“One of the best things to come from the craft beer movement is a dedication to recreating formerly lost and obscure styles of beer, and Opa’s Gose is a wonderful example of this,” explains Beau’s co-founder Steve Beauchesne. “I always get excited when I get to try a new style of beer, and I’m hoping that by bringing this beer to the LCBO and restaurants we’ll get to share that excitement with our fans.”

The saltiness of the style is diffused and complemented by a coriander spice addition. In the heat of the summer season, the 5% Gose pairs well with summer sausage and lemon sorbet. Optionally adding sea salt from the attached sachet to the beer will further define and enhance each flavour, allowing consumers to customize their beer, while creating a lively effect as the salt releases carbonation in their glass.

Presented in Beau’s signature 600 ml bottle with an attached pouch of sea salt, Opa’s Gose will be available at the LCBO for a retail price of $7.85. Opa’s Gose will also be available at select restaurants and pubs, the Beau’s retail store at the brewery, and through the Ottawa-based home delivery service BYBO.
