Argentinian Winemaker Sebastián Zuccardi takes us on a tour of the terroirs of Mendoza’s Uco Valley.

This week we had the pleasure of spending some time with Winemaker Sebastián Zuccardi. Sebastián was taking some time away from his Mendoza vineyards to present his rather excellent wines to the Canadian market, both here in Toronto and out west in Vancouver.

Recently nominated for Wine Enthusiast’s Innovator Of the Year, Sebastián is the driving force behind the pioneering Bodega Piedra Infinita winery in the Paraje Altamira appellation. Whilst the two year old $10 million winery is an genuine architectural treasure in itself, it is the wines crafted within that truly piqued my interest.

Utilising an extensive selection of concrete vats and amphorae as well as Italian foudres, Sebastián’s wines have a vibrancy, lift, and purity of fruit that I have rarely seen from Mendoza.

We sat down with him for a chat about the terroir-driven Malbecs that he feels are the future of his region’s wines.
