Champagne Gatinois Grand Cru de Aÿ Brut Réserve NV
Aÿ, France – $65.95 – 10% = $59.36 per bottle ($356.16 per case of 6)

100% Grand Cru from the Grand Cru ONLY village of Aÿ, this is a blend of 85% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay, where 70% was from the current vintage (here 2012), and 30% was from the two previous vintages (here 2010 & 2011). Wines are fermented separately, then aged for 36 months on its fine lees in bottle. After disgorging by hand, a liqueur d’expédition (aged white wine mixed with sugar) was added to bring the wine to level called “Brut”, which is 6-9 g/L of residual sugar.

“Gatinois is a small, seven-hectare family operation now into the 12th generation, centered on the grand cru village of Aÿ in the Montagne de Reims. Bottles are still hand-riddled and hand-disgorged. The Reserve Brut (85% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay) includes 30% of reserve wines, the oldest in the house, and is given 36 months on the lees, followed by a year in bottle before release. The current bottling, based on the 2010 vintage and the first for the young Louis Cheval, is the best I’ve tasted yet from Gatinois, powerful, balanced, and complex, on the drier side of brut, with superb length. Availability: consignment via Le Sommelier. Tasted November 2015.” – 93 points (John Szabo, MS, WineAlign.com, Nov 2015)

Champagne LeClerc Briant Brut NV
Epernay, France – $61.95 – 10% = $55.76 per bottle ($334.56 per case of 6)

I have had a few customers compare this wine to an aged Krug, with more bubbles and freshens, and not to mention for a fraction of the price! This wine is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir & 30% Pinot Meunier from the villages of Hautvillers, Cumières and Verneuil. Made from organic and biodynamically farmed fruit, principally from the 2011 harvest, with 20% reserve wine. Disgorged in February 2016, with a dosage of 6g/L. Opulent and fruity in a rich and vinous style, with nicely balanced freshness and gorgeous aromatics all at one and the same time.

This wine can be found on some of the most important wine lists in the world including The Modern in NYC, Ramon Frixa in Madrid (2 stars Michelin), and more locally at Café Boulud at the Four Seasons and the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto.

Both of these grower Champagnes offer tremendous value; they are delicious, exciting and will offer your palate something different than what the big houses offer. Enjoy!
