In this Saturday’s VINTAGES release, you will find a great value red from Chile – the Junta Carménère Momentos Reserva 2014. Although long available in other provinces across Canada, this is the winery’s first release at the LCBO. Junta is young and dynamic winery, run by a young and dynamic team focused on delivering quality wines at affordable prices. All wines are hand-picked from their estate vineyards in Chile’s beautiful Curicó Valley.
The Curicó Valley, which starts at the base of the Andes Mountains and extends to the Pacific coast, is alluvial in origin with loam-textured soils that change to deeper clay-loam closer to the coast. Its semi-arid Mediterranean climate enjoys an extended dry season, and the significant different between daytime and nighttime temperatures makes it the perfect climate for lush and fresh red wines.
This full-flavoured and full-bodied red is the perfect pairing for the summer months. It’s uncomplicated but rich in flavour, making it a great match for everything BBQ’d or just hanging out with friends. Enjoy!
TASTING NOTES AND REVIEWS
Junta Carménère Momentos Reserva Curicó Valley 2014
“Swaths of currants, bell pepper and tobacco gangle across the aromatic forest of this carménère. Being so big and with so much personality for a small price, the question is whether its vividity is too much of a good thing. No, especially if the style is up your alley. If so, relish in its piquant and party animal relish. Drink 2016-2019. Tasted June 2016.” Score: 88 – Michael Godel, Wine Align, June 2016
”Dense purple colour; spicy red berry nose with cedary notes; medium-bodied, dry, cranberry and red currant flavours with a firm finish” Score: 88 – Tony Aspler, Vintages Assessments, June 2016
