On a recent tasting trip to Piemonte for the superlative Nebbiolo Prima 2013 I happened to bump into the enchanting Valentina Abbonna.

Valentina’s family have been at the very heart of the Piemontese wine industry for many a generation, and so it was with great pleasure that I sat down for a couple of glasses of 1971 Marchesi di Barolo (the year of my birth no less) and spoke grapes with her.

Now that’s something that one doesn’t get to do every day, that’s for sure…
