Good Food Revolution first became aware of Ms. Beerology, Mirella Amato many a year ago, and we both vividly remember being most impressed by her knowledge, passion, and unique sense of mischievousness. All three of these qualities shine throughout the pages of her very first book, Beerology (Everything You Need To Know To Enjoy Beer… Even More), published by Appetite/Random House.

Whilst Mirella, Canada’s first Master Cicerone, can be deadly serious about all things beer-related, she never allows all of that academic stuff to get in the way of the pure, exhilarating enjoyment of the stuff because, as she says, “at the end of the day, it’s just beer!”.

Mirella has a writing style that is all her own, and from the start to finish of all 17 chapters of Beerolgy she takes the reader on a beery journey that is in many ways very personal… and this is an extremely good thing. It’s also no mean feat knowing how many an Editor has been known to cauterise such expressions of idiosyncrasy in the pursuit of mass-appeal. Thankfully both Mirella’s charm and verve have been left intact, ensuring that her book is a comfortable and stimulating read for both novice and enthusiast alike.

We sat down with Mirella in Toronto’s Trinity Bellwoods Park for a quick glass of beer and a natter about her book…
