Bob Blumer got off the Vancouver red-eye and opened the day’s trading at the TSX on the morning of February 16. Some hours later he sat down with a bunch of journalists at The Drake Hotel (now in the midst of its seventh anniversary celebrations), where he served us a few treats from his latest cookbook Glutton for Pleasure (see GFR’s book-specific interview here). He’d whipped up a few treats like his Italian chicken skewers, Mejool dates wrapped in bacon and deep-fried wontons with chocalate, caramel and banana with Chef Anthony Rose and the team in the kitchen. Undaunted, he was gearing up as the official M.C. for Second Harvest’s Lunch Money Day on Fenbruary 17, where he would greet the masses at Yonge-Dundas Square at 11 o’clock in the morning in a noble effort to keep food from being wasted and folks from going hungry. Jamie Drummond captured the video below, wherein I ask The Surreal Gourmet about his cookbook writing process, his involvement with Second Harvest, the live show (!)  he’s taking on the road this spring with Iron Chef America’s Kevin Brauch and his new adventure in urban animal husbandry…
