VINOLOGIE is proud to bring back four award winning wines from the West of Sicily…

Caruso e Minini is a joint venture between two families and two different stories that merge when Stefano Caruso, the third generation of winemakers, meets Mario Minini, owner of a marketing company in Northern Italy.

Together, back in 2004, they built the foundations of Caruso & Minini, a state-of-the- art winery in Marsala, a city at the extreme part of western Sicily. It is an ambitious challenge, which sees as protagonists the Caruso family’s agricultural tradition and the Minini sales expertise. A Winning bet because, to date, wines reach fans in more than 30 countries around the world.

Tradition and competence, with a look into the future. In fact, today Stefano is flanked by his two daughters Giovanna and Rosanna who are actively taking part in the daily work at the winery. Management in pink that has brought a breath of freshness among the barrels.

Vineyards: Giumarella and Cutaja are the names of the family vineyards from where the wines come from a total of 120 hectares located in the inland of the Trapani province. The highest hills, dedicated to the cultivation of the white varietals, reach an altitude of 450 meters above sea level, whereas the valley bottom is where the red varieties grow. Every single grapevine was planted following the best combination of exposure, soil and climate. This land hosts local grapes such as Grillo, Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia, Zibibbo, Nero d’Avola, Frappato and Perricone as well as some international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot.

THE WINES

Naturalmente Bio Grillo 2019 Sicilia DOC

95 Points – 2020 International Organic Wine Awards
16/20 – Jancis Robinson

WINEMAKER’S NOTE:
‘The Grillo grape is the flagship of our grape varieties. For these vines, we have chosen the highest hill in order to exalt Grillo’s freshness and flavour. We put the wine into tonneaux to protect its essence, giving it delicate notes of oak and acacia. Such good care for a wine is the symbol of western Sicily. This wine showcases the perfect marriage of intensity and elegance. A generous bouquet and a natural delicacy highlight this delicious organic wine. The most refined fish and vegetable-based pastas are the perfect match for this wine. The hallmark dish to pair with Grillo is grilled swordfish. Quite surprising how Grillo can insert itself seamlessly into the flavours of Sicilian cuisine’.

Naturalmente Bio Perricone 2019 Terre Siciliane IGP

96 Top Gold – 2020 International Organic Wine Award
Gold – Mundus Vini
17/20 – Jancis Robinson
91 – 2020 Falstaff
91 – Luca Maroni

WINEMAKER’S NOTE:
‘For decades the Perricone grape, also known as pignatello, had been the undisputed leader of the red grapes in western Sicily. A careful vinification has transformed its prickly character into an incomparable personality: a one-of-a- kind wine. Rich with red fruits, mixed with notes of liquorice, a classic expression of the relationship between the variety and its land. A wine of great power and harmony while simultaneously expressing a fresh and lively character.  Pairs well with charcuterie/salumi and other savoury antipasti, eggplant parmigiana, vegetable tarts and cheeses.’

Terre di Giumara Frappato Nerello Mascalese 2019
Terre Siciliane IGP

WINEMAKER’S NOTE:

’This blend of two classic red Sicilian grapes reaches perfect equilibrium between the marked tannins of the Nerello Mascalese and the low tannin content of Frappato. A light and refreshing wine with a powerful nose. Notes of spices and wild berries. Balanced acidity. Perfectly matches both fish (salmon, tuna) and meat; also pairs well with semi-aged cheeses.’

Available Online and Italy Destination Store (Hwy 27 & Innovation Drive)
