Malcolm Jolley talks to Francesco Ricasoli about the 2018 vintage in Chianti Classico.
The Brolio Castle is one of the iconic images of the Chianti Classico wine region of Tuscany. And the current lord of the castle is Baron Francesco Ricasoli of Barone Ricasoli, who since 1993 has been guiding his family’s ancient wine business while being a central force in the risorgimento of the Chianti Classico appellation. Chianti Classico has been, in my opinion, one of the better deals in the wine world, and the 2018 vintage, which is now in the market, is showing very well. Ricasoli has two delicious examples available in Ontario: at the LCBO Vintages the Barone Ricassoli Rocca Guicciarda Riserva Chianti Classico DOCG 2018 ($24.95 | LCBO# 943613), and the Brolio Chianti Classico DOCG 2018 ($29.95), which is available, while supplies last, by the case for home delivery through The Case For Wine. After tasting both earlier this year at virtual trade events, as well the estate’s delicious extra virgin olive oil, I reached out to The Case For Wine to arrange the video interview below, where we talk about both wines, the 2018 vintage, olive oil and the family’s famous castle. The masked gentleman next to Mr. Ricasoli is Filippo Vanni, Export Manager.
