On Saturday, September 24th at 2:30 pm, Ottawa’s Mayfair Theatre will play host to After the Harvest‘s first event, Cultivate: A Mini Film Fest. After the Harvest is a food blog I created in 2009, and with this “mini film fest”, I am officially taking my blog into the real world.

A charity film screening to benefit Heifer International, Cultivate is my attempt at joining my passions for food, film and fundraising. With the help of many generous sponsors, I will proudly screen Ingredients, a film about the importance of the local food movement. My hope for the event is to raise awareness about food-related topics and to raise funds for Heifer International, a charity who, in their own words, “is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance & sustainability.”

You may remember After the Harvest from the article I wrote for Good Food Revolution about Castlegarth, a gem of an Ottawa Valley restaurant in White Lake, Ontario. Chef Brearley and his wife Jenn were the first to support me in this film fest project, and soon after, many other Ottawa-based companies passionate about local food signed on: Cafe My House, Credible Edibles, Renu Massage Therapy & Spa, Green Rebel: A Fresh Food Revolution and PranaShanti Yoga Centre.

Both Ottawa and Toronto-based supporters are contributing to both the tasty snacks that will be available and the variety of silent auction items up for bid. Many thanks to: Tiny Brushstrokes, Joe Mamma Cycles, Heatherlyone, Dala, Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company, Bridgehead, C.A. Paradis, B.Goods Bakery and Siren Bakery.

So, if you find yourself in Ottawa on Saturday, September 24th, I’d love to see you at the screening. If you’re unable to attend, stay tuned to After the Harvest and Good Food Revolution for a recap of the event and future After the Harvest projects and initiatives.
