Maeli’s Elisa Dilavanzo explains why she has such a passion for the Fior d’Arancio varietal, a unique variety of Yellow Muscat (Moscato Giallo)

 

What with volcanic wines being all the bloody rage thanks to the illustrious John Szabo MS and his rather fantastic book, Volcanic Wines : Salt, Grit and Power, I’m always on the hunt for some new volcanically-sourced juice.

With this in mind, it was my distinct pleasure to spend some time tasting and talking with the most-amiable Elisa Dilavanzo of Maeli winery, a unique property located in the Euganean hills of Veneto in northeastern Italy.

Elisa introduced me to the Fior d’Arancio grape, the focus of her work at Maeli, and I’ll have to admit that this was certainly a new one for me…
