Lubanzi Red Blend 2018

Coastal Region, South Africa

$18.95

An old-school Rhône blend with a contemporary style. Crafted from vineyards dotted throughout South Africa’s Coastal Region, we tried to encapsulate the depth and diversity of South Africa’s western wine country while showcasing its champion, Shiraz. Hand-harvested & made using little intervention in the cellar to give it the extra care it deserves

Lubazni believes that people should be in touch with what they consume – to understand how a product impacts the world, from farm to table. Lubanzi was built to share the magnetism of South Africa – in its tapestry, its culture, its people – & to make a difference in the lives of those who live and work on the country’s wine farms. They stand for global citizenship and the value of adventure & the impact they believe both can have on creating a happier, more tolerant, more connected world.

A good wine for barbecued ribs or chicken, this will also pair well with a hearty winter stew.

Marietta Román Estate Grown Zinfandel/Petite Sirah/Barbera 2016

California, USA

$29.95

Currants and red raspberries play the aromatic lead in this wine, while savoury spices and sweet fennel flowers provide a delicious and nuanced texture. It is delightfully ripe yet offers a seamless transition into layered complexity and the perfect pop of crunchy acidity. A wine made for digging into a big family meal.

For decades Marietta produced wine by purchasing high-quality fruit from local friends and farmers. Some of these meaningful relationships led to the acquisition of some of those same vineyards that we have been working with for years. In the case of Geyserville, our father worked the land and gained the trust of Viola Angeli before she offered he purchase it.

The 2018 Román is bright, punchy and full of Zinfandel character. Dark red and purplish fruit, spice and mint all race out of the glass effortlessly. Dollops of Petite Sirah and Barbera bring added complexity to the field blend. The 2018 is one of the best wines readers will find for the money. Quite simply, it is a screaming value

– Antonio Galloni. Tasting date: January 2020

The Román Zinfandel pairs well with pizzas, pasta, grilled foods, and tangy, smoky barbecue sauces.

Echeverría Elementos Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

California, USA

$19.95

The 2018 Ironstone Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and complex, but still easily approachable. Its dark cherry and toasted oak aromas tantalize the taste buds that will savour juicy black currant, raspberry and dark cherry flavours. This luscious, well-balanced, wine has a sweet middle palate that finishes with a lovely toasty oak component.

The Kautz Family grows Cabernet Sauvignon in several of Lodi’s sub-appellations, including Mokelumne River and Sloughhouse. These selected vineyards provide diverse soils that, when combined, create a more complex wine than one location alone.

Often referred to as the King of Wines, Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic pairing partner for a variety of roasted, broiled or barbecued beef dishes. Its magnificent flavour and structure also work well with lamb, wild game such as venison and wild boar, hearty vegetarian dishes, as well as strong cheeses.
