Malivoire prepares for the 2019 harvest with new events…
Malivoire harvest

Ripened clusters are at our door. First off the vine will be chardonnay and pinot noir for sparkling Bisous Brut and Rosé, likely beginning September 12th, followed by grapes for our Vivant and Moira Rosés… and on it goes.

For visitors, weather permitting, our licensed vineyard patio will serve wine by the glass daily through the end of October.

However, as always, the daily machinery of harvest and production make conditions unsafe for group winery tours. We expect to resume tours in November.

Malivoire Fun Facts

Q: How Many Grapevines does Malivoire tend?

A: Let’s grab a drink and do the math.

First, some credit to the people who do this work. Our vineyard staff fluctuates between a minimum of 3 in the winter, to a maximum of 3 tractor drivers plus 13 men and women on the ground at harvest.

Under their care are 4 sites totalling 62 acres, planted at between 1,250 and 2,900 vines per acre depending on site and variety.

Breaking it down, the number of vines per vineyard is roughly as follows: 10,800 at Frost Road, 12,600 at Mottiar, 17,100 at Moira and 55,100 at the Estate site.

Add it up and you have approximately 95,600 vines requiring the attention of 16 people or less… 6,000 or more vines per person.

And you thought doing dishes was tough.
