Nicholas Pearce presents a special shipment of Gilvesy wines from Hungary…

It’s hard not to be blown away by the sheer beauty and rugged wilderness of the terroir of Mount Saint George (Szent György-Hegy). An ancient and little known volcanic butte in Europe’s Pannon basin, cloaked with thriving, organic vineyards, is where Róbert Gilvesy calls home and where the fruits of his labour yield incredibly textured and bracing wines.

When safe travel resumes, you can bet we’ll be planning a visit! The bohemian vibe at the winery coupled with the great wine, great people and incomparable views has put Hungary at the top of our travel bucket list.

Hungarian expat Róbert Gilvesy moved back to his homeland from Canada, and began building the Gilvesy winemaking empire on the former Esterházy estate on Szent György Hill. Thanks to years of hard work, the Hegymagas-based facility now includes a modern building complex and about 13 hectares of vineyards, in addition to being the home of the family. The area is shaped by 6 million year old volcanoes, where indigenous and international varieties grow organically.

These terroir driven, organic and mineral wines from Hungary will be arriving in May.
