Nicholas Pearce presents the biodynamic Austrian wines of Hager Matthias…

The Hager Matthias winery is located in the small village of Mollands in the Kamptal area of Lower Austria. Matthias took over the 12-hectare estate and the family business at an early age and since then has aimed to produce the best quality wine possible and to focus on keeping the winery and vineyards in balance with nature. He is regarded as one of the most experimental winemakers in the region, producing styles of wine such as Pet Nat and skin contact whites and has led the charge on cultivating the land according to biodynamic principles – the vineyards started organic conversion in 2000  and Matthias continues to be an active and important member of the Demeter biodynamic association.

The wines are bottled and packaged specifically to reflect Matthias’ attention to terroir and quality – the blue line represents fresh, lively wines including Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Zweigelt; and the brown line gravitates towards more earthy, flavourful styles.

The Hager Matthias wines from Austria will be arriving in May.
