CLASSICS Release June 3 :
Le Cadeau Trajet Reserve Pinot Noir 2016

Le Cadeau Vineyard is part of a 28 acre wilderness haven on the south side of Parrett Mountain, in the heart of the Chehalem Mountains AVA. This single uplifted landmass in the northern Willamette Valley is based on volcanic basalts, and was the ideal site for Tom and Deb Mortimer to fulfill their singular vision of growing distinctive, complex and structural Pinot Noir. Their 16-acre vineyard, planted between 200-250m, is carved into blocks. You can view their different blocks, and respective cuvées, in this vineyard breakdown.

We’re proud to be highlighting Le Cadeau Trajet Reserve Pinot Noir 2016 in the June CLASSICS release, available now.

Le Cadeau Trajet Reserve Pinot Noir 2016

The Trajet Reserve cuvee was a journey into something new for Le Cadeau, when Tom & winemaker Steve Ryan had the idea to make an estate Pinot without any limits. The result with the 2016 harvest was a 4 barrel fermentation of 95% whole cluster grapes, subsequently aged in French oak for nearly 18 months. It is rich and deep yet surprisingly soft on the palate, with very well-integrated tannin.

“Translucent red. Highly perfumed aromas of red and blue fruit preserves, exotic spices, mocha and incense pick up a smoky nuance as the wine stretches out. Broad and fleshy but surprisingly lively as well, offering concentrated raspberry liqueur, boysenberry, cola and licorice flavors and a late touch of candied rose. Finishes seamless, sweet and extremely long, with an echo of sappy blue fruit and supple, even tannins that add final grip. Drinking window: 2023-2032.” 95 points, Josh Raynolds, vinous.com, June 2019.
