Pinot Noir and Rosé Release

Spring has come (sort of?) to Ontario and after another long, cold winter we thought the best way to celebrate the warmer weather would be to release three single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and a Rose. Come join us this weekend on Saturday, May 2 (10:00 am – 6:00 pm) in the barn to sample and purchase these four fantastic wines.

Lowrey Vineyard Pinot Noirs
Coming from 30+ year old vines, this is the wine that started it all for us.  In 2009, with little more than a lot of passion and a couple of bins, we made our first wine for Leaning Post from Lowrey Pinot Noir. Now, the 2011 and 2012 vintages are our best yet, showing why we believe in this vineyard and in Niagara.  We have come a long way since then, but we remain committed to the reasons we started this project: commitment to each other, our family, and making the best wine we can.

2011 Pinot Noir – Lowrey Vineyard St. Davids Bench – 105 cases made:  $38 retail ($32.08 Licensee)
The 2011 Lowrey Vineyard Pinot shows a really classic style, with cherry kirsch, beets, and fresh-turned earth leading to violets and roses on the nose. Classy with great smoothness and finesse on the palate, the acidity and tannins are in perfect balance and provide the structure to age, yet roundness to enjoy now. If you liked our 2009 and 2010 Lowrey Pinots, this is like a cross between the two of them!

2012 Pinot Noir – Lowrey Vineyard St. Davids Bench – 170 cases made:  $42 (Licensee $35.46)
We believe this is our best Lowrey Vineyard Pinot to date! Beautiful concentration and depth from what is considered Niagara’s best vintage in a decade. Gorgeous aromas of raspberry, black cherry, and ripe beets leap out of the glass. On the palate, earthy/mushroom and cherry cola lead to subtle nuances of autumn leaves and smoked meat. Ripe tannins and well-balanced acidity provide the structure to allow this wine to age for at least 10 years!

McNally Vineyard Pinot Noir
As part of continuing mission to explore the best Terroirs in Niagara, we are really excited to be releasing a new Pinot Noir from McNally Vineyard on the Beamsville Bench. We want to continue to push the quality of Niagara Pinot forward, and the 2012 vintage (believed to be the best vintage of the last ten years!) and a great vineyard site have allowed us to do it.  It is really distinct from the Lowrey Pinots, being from a cooler site and a newer clone of Pinot Noir. The ripeness yet balance and “Pinocity” we have acheived is truly remarkable.  With only 45 cases made however, quantities are extremely limited!

2012 Pinot Noir – McNally Vineyard Beamsville Bench – 45 cases made: $50 (Licensee $42.21)
This stunning wine shows unbelievable concentration and power, yet is perfectly balanced with ripe cherry and fruit-cake mingling with fresh herbs, mushroom, leather and forest-floor. The palate continues to shine, with raspberry marmalade and truffle on a cumin and cocoa base. The mouth-filling texture is matched perfectly to good acidity, framing wonderfully ripe and velvety tannins that lead to an impossibly long finish. This wine will age gracefully for 10 years or more!

Rose
Finally, we have thought for some time that we would like to make Rose, and the 2014 vintage offered an opportunity to do just that.  Perfect for the upcoming warmer weather, it is a versatile and interesting wine to have for all occasions!

2014 Rose – 220 cases made: $20 (Licensee $16.88)
This wonderfully fresh and fruity yet complex Rose is made from 70% Gamay and 30% Cabernet Franc. A cool and steady growing season created the perfect conditions for making the kind of Rose we love. With gorgeous upfront strawberry and raspberry, and subtle rhubarb and herbs in the background, the balanced acidity refreshes and leaves you wanting more!
