This week we once again chat with a Winemaker from New Zealand, but this time from the Marlborough region, South Island.
Thornbury‘s amiable Simon Fell gives us his take upon the ongoing pandemic, and where New Zealand is today with COVID-19, although since this interview was recorded Auckland have reported 13 active community cases, that is cases outside of isolation facilities. A second lockdown is now in place locally.
After some questioning, Simon then goes on to explain why he feels Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs have the ultimately singular expression of the varietal that they do (read: sweaty passion fruit, blackcurrant, fresh asparagus, and mint), something that I have always been extremely curious about.
The Thornbury Sauvignon Blanc is currently available through LCBO Vintages for $18.95, and was tasting particularly vibrant and benchmark Marlborough upon the afternoon I tasted (albeit virtually) with Simon.
