Woodman Wines & Spirits presents a special California Merlot to look for at Vintages…

Matanzas Creek Alexander Valley Merlot 2016
LCBO# 932806 | $39.95

The Draw:
Full-bodied but balanced, fruit for this bottling is sourced from six specialized sites in the Alexander Valley – well-suited for grapes in the Bordeaux family. Cherries, chocolate, tobacco, graphite, leather and herbs suggest a ripe, savoury expression that rides the line between New and Old World.

The Winery:
Founded in 1977 in the bucolic Bennett Valley AVA, Matanzas Creek Winery was an early pioneer in Sauvignon Blanc. For over 40 years, the property has pushed the boundaries of excellence, sustainably harvesting fruit from preeminent sites across Sonoma County. Wines are generous, concentrated, and crafted with character. An integral part of Jackson Family Wines.

Pairings and Tips:
Whether indoor or al fresco dining, grab your decanter and have some large stemware handy; you’re in for a treat. For a quick power pairing, go steak frites. Typical grilled meats are easy matches for the weight and structure of the wine. But if you have the time, consider Irish stew (with or without conventional proteins), or mushroom-stuffed acorn squash garnished with a berry gastrique. Supple tannins are integrated for drinking now, although there is room to lay down another few years.
