Kloof Street CHENIN BLANC $22.95
90-91Pts Wine Align

Our Kloof Street range is all about freshness, balance and great drinkability.

Grapes for our 2016 Chenin Blanc come from three sustainably farmed vineyard parcels in different parts of the Swartland: One parcel of 35 year old Chenin planted in the stony Shale and Schist based soils of Kasteelberg, and two parcels of 40+ year-old dry land, bush vine Chenin grown in the decomposed Granite soils of the Paardeberg.

Winemaking: Grapes are chilled in our cold room then pressed whole-bunch and the juice is allowed to settle overnight. Minimal SO2 is added and, as with all our wines, no further additions are made. The juice is then racked to tank (85%) and older French oak barrels (15%) for fermentation. Fermentation is with indigenous yeasts and lasts up to 6 weeks. The barrels are racked and blended with the tank fermented portion and then bottled.

TASTING NOTES
Pale straw in colour, this wine has a nose of sun ripened pears and wet granite. The palate has a vibrant acidity balanced by a soft, round texture and some pithy character. The wine has a fresh, mineral finish. Best drunk young and served at 10 to 12 ˚C.

Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines is one of the stand-out producers in South Africa’s budding Swartland region. Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines were an important part of the Swartland Revolution, and remain one of the most exciting producers in South Africa.  Winemakers Chris and Andrea Mullineux’s ambition is to bottle wines that are a true expression of the Swartland, and all steps of their winemaking process are taken with this in mind.  In the cellar, apart from minimal amounts of sulphur, nothing is added to or removed from the wine. They do not make use of any yeasts, acids, tannins, enzymes, or fining and filtering agents.

Since the launch of the Mullineux brand in 2007, Andrea, together with her co-founder and husband Chris, have accumulated 18 five-star wine ratings from Platter’s South African Wine Guide as well as being named Winery of the Year in both 2014 and 2016.  In addition, in 2016 Wine Enthusiast Magazine named Andrea Mullineux Winemaker of the Year.
