Profile Wine Group presents four wines to look for at the LCBO this weekend at Vintages…

Castelli del Grevepesa Castelgreve Chianti Classico Riserva 2015
$23.95 | LCBO# 344416

This wine, mostly Sangiovese grape, greets the eye with a very intense ruby red colour. It opens with a complex and elegant bouquet, with nuance of mature fruits and vanilla. Soft on the palate, well balanced with persistent aftertaste.

94 Pts – James Suckling, September 11, 2018

“Beautiful aromas of crushed berries and violets follow through to a medium-to-full-bodied palate with integrated tannins. A fresh and clean finish. Shows hints of hazelnuts and walnuts, too. Delicious to drink already, but it shows potential for aging. Drink or hold.”

Les Grandes Serres Vacqueyras Les Hautes Vacquieres 2016
$26.95 | LCBO# 395194

Beautiful deep purple colour. Complex nose with red fruit aromas with hint of licorice. The palate is full and silky with aromas of candied cherries and blackberries and a final leather, spice and vanilla.

Food Pairing: Ideal with roast poultry, roasted free range chicken with aromatic herbs along to French fries and mushrooms.

92 Pts – Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, October 31, 2017

“On par with the company’s Gigondas, the 2016 Vacqueyras les Hautes Vacquieres is a ripe and supple blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre that spent six months in barrel. This medium to full-bodied, moderately rich wine’s strong suit is its velvety texture, which carries the notes of plum and garrigue easily across the palate. It should drink well for 5-8 years.”

Donatien Bahuaud Vouvray Les Grands Mortiers 2018
$22.95 | LCBO# 140889

Pale yellow colour with green hues. Fresh fruit apple, peach. Well-structured wine, nice acid frame typical of the chalky terroir of Vouvray.

Food Pairing: Fruit salads, spicy cuisine, Thai specialities.

90 Pts – Natalie MacLean, November 9, 2019

“A great value off-dry, ultra-balanced and mouth filling Vouvray, zesty with fresh pear, white stone fruit, mouth-watering citrus and mineral flavours on the palate. So good!”

Pierre Sparr Cremant d’Alsace Brut Rosé
$19.95 | LCBO# 39016

Salmon pink colour. Fresh aromas of soft red berries (predominantly strawberry & raspberry). On the palate, round and fruity with hints of peach. The flavours are intense, with lively acidity framed by a well made structure and delicate bubbles. An extremely lively mousse gives this wine an instant festive character. The finish is clean, dry and smooth.

90 Pts & Best Value – Natalie MacLean, September 28, 2019

“Superb quality and taste for the price! Toasty with some field raspberry notes. Bone-dry and refreshing. Here’s your summer party bubbly. Bring it on! A terrific producer and well-known in Alsace and around the world. This bubbly is made using the traditional champagne method from only pinot noir grapes.”
