Profile Wine Group has four new wines in this week’s Vintages Release…

Dominio del Plata BenMarco Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
LCBO# 232637 | $19.95

Los Arboles is characterized by its stony soil that allows the plant to ripen early. BenMarco Cabernet Sauvignon is an outstanding wine with lingering flavors of currant, cassis and plum combined with a hint of spice and juicy acidity. Good structure, firm tannins and a persistent finish.

Food pairing: Red meat, pasta with Bolognese or mushroom-based sauce.

“Los Árboles is a place south of Gualtallary in Tupungato, toward the north of the Uco Valley. The soil is alluvial and very stony, like a river bed. This is a very good place for the cabernet to ripen without problems, yielding intense ripe red fruit with slightly spicy and herbal touches, but always with the fruit dominating on the palate, where the variety’s juiciness stands out. Deliciously varietal.” 94 Pts & Best Cabernet – Descorchados 2021

Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2018
LCBO# 390203 | $19.95

Golden yellow in colour, with medium intensity. The balanced nose shows good fruitiness interacting with the French oak. Notes of fresh tropical fruit like peach, papaya, and grapefruit mix well with the vanilla and sweet spices from the oak. On the palate the wine is fresh, with medium body, and pleasant acidity, with notes of yoghurt and dulce de leche that smooth out the wine, giving it staying power.

Food pairing: This is a very versatile wine. It is highly recommended with salmon tartare, lobster, fresh shellfish, ripe cheeses, and with hot dishes such as crab gratin and mildly sauced white meats and pastas.

“The creamy texture to this is really enticing with sliced cooked apples and lemons and some light vanilla. It’s full-bodied, yet very fresh and lively. Flavorful finish. Pretty complexity. Drink or hold.” 93 Pts – James Suckling, April 17, 2020

Laura Hartwig Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
LCBO# 13428 | $16.95

Deep ruby red. Deeply complex and attractive, red fruit and cassis. Elegant spicy notes with tobacco, dark chocolate and oak. Elegant and mouth embracing, medium tannins, juicy and silky. Red fruits emerge again in mouth consistent with a year that achieved a balanced maturity; long and intense finish. 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot

Food pairing: Marbled beef, complex cheeses, pork, lamb, spicy food, pizza.

“Wild-herb notes with a fresh, leafy edge, as well as violets and dried red berries. Powdery, gently drying tannin sets up a vibrant, purple fruit-flavored palate. Good depth. Drink or hold.” 91 Pts – James Suckling, April 17, 2020

Vina Falernia Carmenere Gran Reserva 2017
LCBO# 269175 | $16.95

Brilliant and deep inky violet colour. Nose is very intense and fruity with vanilla and white chocolate notes. The wine shows incredible softness in the mouth with velvety structure.

Food pairing: Pairs well with grilled meat, pork loin, pastas with meat-based sauce, spicy food.

“This comes from the hot sandy soils of Vicuña, which Giorgio Flessati says are ideally suited to the variety, and is partly made with the appassimento technique of drying grapes that is used in the Veneto region of northern Italy. Off-dry and slightly figgy, with a green undertone and spicy 15% new American oak. Drink date: 2020-2025.” 90 Pts – Tim Atkin, MW, Chile Special Report 2020
