2 and a half hours north of Toronto on a small nearly private lake in the Haliburton region, 100+ food and wine lovers descended upon Camp Timberlane which turned into TWO ISLANDS WEEKEND curated by Danielle Goldfinger. Event Coordinator extraordinaire, Danielle (of Not Far From The Tree and previously of The Stop Community Food Centre) was taken back by the beautiful Haliburton Highlands and decided it was time for food lovers to relive their childhood here too. Some called it “glamping” ( glam camping), others called it a food & wine retreat, call it what you will it was a great idea to connect food lovers with chefs and beverage producers.

Danielle collected a group of chefs and beverage providers ( Rosewood Estates Winery, St. Ambroise and Blackfly) and picked the first weekend of September to start the inaugural Two Islands Weekend. It was an all inclusive weekend, all accommodations, food, drink & activities were included to ensure the weekend was as fun and easy as possible.  There was a prepared itinerary full of camp games such as Polar Bear dips at 7am, Capture The Flag, Arts & Crafts time, bonfires and wine tasting classes. At night the mess hall turned into a party hall and near the lake a fire with smores and sing alongs were the nightly features. (Down by the bay………)

The main attraction was the excellent food and each meal was a spectacular event with all chefs helping each other out in the back. The community of food lovers grew closer and the chefs banded together to deliver truly one of a kind camp meals. A different chef headlined each meal and vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options were provided along with pig cheek, brisket, lobster, chicken wings and more.

Camp Timberlane counsellors also got into the foodie spirit and helped out and enjoyed the delicious food commenting that they’ve never had better camp food nor were the beverages this good.

Rosewood Estates Winery was happy to be onsite all weekend to ensure the wines matched the stellar food that was being served up. Showcasing our Long Rows Wines and a unique Mead Sangria campers loved interacting with Krys & Marlayna. Our 2011 Long Rows White ( a bronze medal winner at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London England!) was the wine of choice as well as our Sunrise Sangria featuring Rosewood’s dry summer mead, Harvest Gold. Recipe for the Sunrise Sangria can be found below.

A great weekend of fun food and wine, Danielle brought together the food community in a fun and beautiful way. Can’t wait until we do it again, and again and again.
