Woodman Wines & Spirits presents an outstanding value red from South Africa…

Rustenberg Shiraz 2018
$16.95 | Vintages 399246

The Draw:
This award-winning Shiraz boasts loads of natural brambly red and black fruit on its well-defined nose. Medium-to-full bodied, its expressive ripe blackberry, cherry and damson plum fruit is enhanced by baking spice and smoky tones on the finish, all balanced by a fine line of acidity and crisp tannins. Packs a punch to knockout this polar vortex.

The Winery:
Founded in 1682, the Rustenberg Estate encompasses 880 hectares in the shadow of the iconic Simonsberg mountain. The property contains 120 hectares under vine, 200 hectares of farmland for cattle and bees, and the remainder conservation land – some of the most astounding ‘fynbos’ (Cape indigenous flora) to be found. The Barlow family took over the property in 1941 and have upheld its sterling reputation. Currently the winery is helmed by the acclaimed Murray Barlow, who completed his Masters in Oenology 2012, and has been twice awarded “Young Winemaker of the Year” by the Diner’s Club.

Pairings and Tips:
A sturdy, burly heartwarming quaff like this would be right at home with winter stew, cassoulet, chili, or lamb scottadito. Designed to be enjoyed now – with a little help from aeration or decanting – but can age for the next 5-7 years.
