Southbrook Winemaker Ann Sperling takes us through a detailed tasting of her “Barrel Study” Chardonnays… and they are pretty damn fascinating.

There’s always something exciting going in the cellar at Southbrook as Winemaker Ann Sperling is continually experimenting with new winemaking techniques. We recently sat down with her to discuss her range of Chardonnays that have all been aged in varying types of barrel. When given to opportunity to compare and contrast the range, the differences are really quite fascinating and make for a terrific academic tasting in the way in which different barrels interact with wine, changing their aromatics, flavours, and textures.
