by The Stop Community Food Centre, a ‘Certified Good Food Fighter’

From March 1st to 31st, twenty-three of Toronto’s finest restaurants will unite for the third annual Stop for Food event, a culinary celebration in support of The Stop Community Food Centre.

Throughout the month of March, each participating restaurant—see list below—will offer a special prix fixe menu or menu item, and will donate a portion of the proceeds from these offerings directly to The Stop. These menus will be prepared in each restaurant’s distinctive style using Ontario-grown ingredients, further strengthening the bonds between local farmers and artisanal producers, restaurants and the community.

Stop for Food is a special opportunity to invest in your community and the local economy while enjoying some of the city’s most remarkable cuisine.

Participating restaurants: Beast, The Beet Organic Café, Chiado, Cowbell, The Drake Hotel, Harbord House, Harbord Room, Kaiseki Sakura, Lee, Local Kitchen & Wine Bar, Oyster Boy, Parts & Labour, Salt, Splendido, Table 17, Torito Tapas Bar, Trevor Kitchen and Bar, Tutti Matti, Universal Grill, Veritas, Vertical, Victor and Zucca Trattoria. (More restaurants may yet be added; please check www.stopforfood2011.thestop.org for updates and menus.)

About The Stop: Located in Toronto’s west end, The Stop Community Food Centre works to increase access to food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds health and community and challenges inequality. From its origins as one of Canada’s first food banks, The Stop has blossomed into a thriving community hub where neighbours participate in a broad range of programs that provide healthy food, as well as foster social connections, build food skills and promote engagement in civic issues. Underlying all of The Stop’s efforts is the view that food should be a basic human right.
