Join Community Food Centres Canada for the launch of The Local Community Food Centre, a new place for food in Stratford

Report after report tells us something we know all too well: the number of people who rely on food banks for daily sustenance is growing. So what are we doing about it?

At Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC), we’re launching a new way to address the intractable issues of hunger, poor health and social isolation facing our communities. With partners, we’re building Community Food Centres across the country that will bring people together to grow, cook, share and advocate for good food through an approach inspired by The Stop Community Food Centre in Toronto.

We’re inviting you to join us on November 22 as we celebrate the launch of The Local Community Food Centre, a dynamic new centre for healthy food in Stratford.

The Local CFC houses a healthy food distribution centre, a drop-in meal program, community kitchens, a year-round greenhouse for educational programming and an advocacy office. By locating these services under one roof and in a welcoming space, The Local will increase access to healthy food for low-income community members while building food skills and connections to support. At The Local, food is much more than a hand-out: it’s a tool that builds health and gives people the dignity, hope, and tools they need to find a way out of poverty.

Please join us as we launch this vibrant community space with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community meal prepared by Chef Jordan Lassaline. The meal will be followed by The Local’s Do the Math Town Hall, a community event calling for an increase in social assistance rates.
