TORONTO’S TOP CHEFS BATTLE FOR TITLE OF VANCOUVER AQUARIUM’S

2011 OCEAN WISE CHOWDER CHOWDOWN CHAMPION

 

Toronto, Ontario – Ten of Toronto’s top Ocean Wise chefs will heat up the Fairmont Royal York on November 2nd as they compete in a cook-off for the title of 2011 Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown Champion.

“This friendly, but fierce, competition brings together ten of Toronto’s best chefs as they compete with original ocean-friendly seafood chowders, paired with local craft beer,” says Mike McDermid, Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise partner relations manager. “The judging panel has selected ten Ocean Wise recipes submitted by Ontario’s top chefs for what will be an incredible night of great tasting chowder, all in support of sustainable seafood.”

The following local Ocean Wise chefs will go head-to-head, creating delicious, sustainable Ocean Wise chowder paired with local craft beers:

  • Shaun J. Edmonstone – Bruce Wine Bar
  • Ted Corrado – C5
  • Tim Palmer –  Epic The Fairmont Royal York
  • David Friedman – FishBar
  • Kristin Donovan – Hooked Inc.
  • Andrea Nicholson-Jack – Killer Condiments
  • Shabbir Chowdhury – Mill Street Brew Pub
  • Martin Kouprie & Derek Bendig – Pangaea
  • Shawn Hartwell – Simple Fish & Chips
  • Morgan Wilson – Trios Bistro

Guests will have the chance to taste the savoury chowders paired with Mill Street Brewery  beers, and vote on the People’s Choice Award, while a panel of four judges–Chef Anthony Walsh of Oliver & Bonacini, Ivy Knight, Mio Adilman and Micah Donovan from the Food Network’s The Food Jammers – will determine the night’s champion.

The Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown takes place on November 2, 2011, at 6 p.m., at the Fairmont Royal York. Tickets are $40 or $32 for Toronto Zoo members, and are available online. All proceeds from the evening will directly support the Ocean Wise program. Chowder Chowdown is a 19 + event.
