2019 Yealands Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand (Alcohol 12.5%, Residual Sugar 5 g/l) LCBO $16.95 (750ml bottle)

Over the years I’ve found that many of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs coming in around this price-point tend to be sorely lacking any depth, and often come over as being almost dilute, probably due in no small part to the massive yields demanded of many of Marlborough’s vineyards; thankfully this new Yealands release bucks that trend.

For $17 this is a seriously solid Kiwi Sauvignon, with a beautiful purity of fruit that really shines throughout both the bouquet and palate. If you are into grassy, tropical fruit stylings in your Sauvignons then this bottling is simply a “must buy” and will wholly satiate your requirements.

The aromatics are all about fresh grass cuttings, guava, passionfruit, lemon zest, and a hint of peppermint, with the palate being both juicy, crisp, and fresh, but also excitingly mouthfilling and reasonably weighty. The finish is pretty damn extended for a wine at this level.

Definitely give it a try if you enjoy this style of Sauvignon Blanc.
