Le Sommelier 585

My favourite holiday of the year is undoubtedly Thanksgiving. Who can deny that feasting with friends and family must certainly be the best way to spend a day off from work? Liven things up this Thanksgiving with one of the highlights of tomorrow’s VINTAGES release, and enjoy Champagne Pommery’s newest Champagne, the non-vintage Silver Top. This luxurious bubbly was once known as “Brut Apanage” and was renamed this year to simplify its association with its unmistakably identifiable silver foil. The wine inside remains the same: classy, dry, creamy, elegant and refreshing. I cannot imagine a better wine to enjoy with friends and family, either as an apéritifs or with the turkey itself. Its rich mousse and crisp acidity should hold up well to the rich and unctuous flavours that the turkey, stuffing and all the other accoutrements have to offer.

As Michael Godel praised in his highly complimentary 93 point review, “What a swell party this is! What Pommery!” Master Sommelier John Szabo thought highly of the wine as well, rating it 92 points, and calling it “a classy and elegant wine from Pommery.” Their full reviews are below.

I hope you make this Thanksgiving even more special by bringing out the bubbles! Enjoy the long weekend, and your time with friends and family.

Pommery Silver Top BottleTASTING NOTES

Reviews:

“The Silver is a gorgeous, grand green patina, a stoic and manifest dry, classic glass of Champagne. Aromas are in exaction, in compliance and in direct connectivity to a grower’s condition. Just a sliver of earthy, sweet oxidative sumptuousness streaks up the middle palate, lingers, turns away from the sun and lets the mist fall in late. Fine, linear acidity takes over and tangs the tame beginning, which proceeds to relinquish submissively, relegating it as just a faint memory. “What a swell party this is! What Pommery!” Exceptional class, chaste and chasmic-bridging Champagne. Well, did you evah? Tasted October 2014.”
Score93 (Michael Godel, MS, www.winealign.com, October 2014)

“A fresh, balanced, yeasty and citrus-driven example of champagne, which hits a fine balance between fresh and mature, fruity and yeasty flavours. Minerality is a feature on the palate, and crisp acids carry the finish. A classy and elegant wine from Pommery. Tasted October 2014. Value Rating: **”
