J. Lohr Pure Paso Proprietary Red 2018  +15652  $41.95

“Savory varietal notes of Cabernet Sauvignon are layered with the dark fruit and spice character of Petite Sirah. The bouquet of cocoa powder, caramel, and anise works in harmony with the black cherry fruit signature of this wine. Bright and focused on the palate with a firm and appetizing finish.” – Steve Peck, Director of Winemaking

69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Petite Sirah, 2% Syrah, 2% Malbec

Food pairing: Pairs well with tomato rice dishes like paella or creamy risotto.  Exquisite with prime rib or a dense monkfish.

94 Pts & Platinum & Best Dry Blended Red – Critics Challenge 2021

Chateau de Nages JT Red 2016 Organic  +736876  $27.95

A deep, almost black, garnet colour.  Classic Syrah notes of dark berry fruit, licorice and smoke.  Medium bodied with a velvety tannic presence.  The finish is very long with spices, mineral notes and freshness.

95% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre

93 Pts – Natalie MacLean, July 25, 2020

“A rich medium-plus-bodied Syrah and Mourvèdre red wine blend from the Costières De Nîmes wine region produced by the Famille Gassier. Dry and juicy with earthy blue florals, black cherry, plum and cracked pepper spice flavours on the palate.”

Wakefield Wines Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2018  +744235  $19.95

At release, the wine is a deep red with a vibrant purple hue.  The wine has an aroma of rich blackcurrant, subtle spice, tomato leaf and a touch of eucalypt.  French oak maturation is also evident with subtle aromas of cedar and dark chocolate.  This is a wine of great intensity.  It has distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours.  Subtle oak characters of cedar cigar box and spice are also evident.  The tannins are fine and elegant – a hallmark of the varietal.  The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.

92 Pts & Exceptional – Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com, June 21, 2021

“Lifted aromas of dark cherry/berry fruit abound adorned with savoury herbs, espresso roast and wisps of minty notes. A rich, luscious surge of black currant and cassis blankets the palate decorated with dark bittersweet chocolate and vanilla and wisps of savoury herbs. It’s medium-full bodied, balanced and bountiful with persistent purity of fruit from entry to finish and aftertaste. Pour now or over the next eight years with grilled rack of lamb that was rubbed in rosemary. The price-quality balance is well in your favour.”

Chateau Le Grand Collection Moulin Grand Reserve Blaye Cotes de Bord. 2016  +11326  $17.95

The colour is concentrated and youthfully radiant.  A fine, spicy nose and ripe dark fruit precedes a supple, soft attack that leads into freshness and fruit.  The palate is smooth and generous, enveloped with polished tannins.

80 % Merlot, 15 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 % Malbec

Food pairing: Chicken with spices

92 Pts & Editor’s Choice – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, February 1, 2019

“Though he’d rather be a musical genius, Jean-François Reaud did wonders with this estate, in the family since 1904. Dense and full of tannins, it also offers ripe fruits. Its structure and density match the intensity of the fruit, meaning the wine has a great future. With a dense aftertaste, the wine will age, so drink from 2022”

Bodegas Altanza Lealtanza Gran Reserva DOC 2011  +453548  $32.95

Great aromatic complexity due to its long ageing.  On the nose you find aromas of spices and such reduction leading to a slight hint of leather, and smoked aromas.  The wood also provides memories of cocoa, toasty and coffee.  It’s entry into the mouth leaves a nice wine, charming, powerful with good acidity and well balanced.  From soft sweet tannins it has a smooth entry, nice fresh with long aftertaste.  100% Tempranillo

Food pairing: Ideal for small snacks and spiked elaborate haute cuisine.  All kinds of meat, stews, meats, vegetables and cheese.

92 Pts & Silver – Decanter Wine World Awards 2020

“Warm, rich nose. Delicate palate of raspberry, strawberry and cranberry with cinnamon and clove oak spices. A long, elegant finish.”

Montes Limited Selection Pinot Noir 2019  +37937  $14.95

Ruby red in colour with lively touches.  On the nose it’s very expressive, with intense, entertaining notes of sour cherry and fresh strawberry, against a floral, wild herb background.  Smooth caramel aromas are well integrated with the varietal character.  On the palate it’s balanced, with rich, natural acidity that makes it juicy and fresh.  The rounded tannins give structure and a nice sensation of sweetness.  With medium body and good staying power, the finish is fruity and in line with the sensations on the nose.

Food pairing: Highly recommended with fettuccini alfredo, soft and creamy soups (mushroom, chicken), veal chops, camembert cheese and mushroom risotto.

91 Pts – James Suckling, June 3, 2021

“Red fruit, smoke, dried sage and clove on the nose. Medium-bodied with plush tannins. Juicy and rounded with vibrant acidity and rich, smoky character. Flavorful finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”

Donatien Bahuaud Les Grands Mortiers Vouvray 2019  +140889  $21.95

Pale yellow colour with green hues.  Fresh fruit apple, peach.  Well-structured wine, nice acid frame typical of the chalky terroir of Vouvray.  100% Chenin Blanc

Food pairing: Fruit salads, spicy cuisine, Thai specialities.

90 Pts – Natalie MacLean, March 20, 2021

“Les Grands Mortiers 2019 is a great value plushy and zesty Vouvray, an off-dry Chenin Blanc with balanced acidity to match orange blossom, fresh pear, ripe stone fruit, honeyed melon, beeswax and mineral flavours vibrant and lingering on the palate”

 Trim Wines Cabernet Sauvignon 2018  +20811  $17.95

Vibrant notes of cranberry, cherry and blackberry are interlaced with crushed sage, vanilla and cedar.  Deep red colour, vivacious acidity and soft tannins complete this approachable wine with a nice finish of herbal tea and spices.
