Ranger Wine is delighted to announce the arrival of the stunning wines of Bodegas Piedra. Set in the Toro region of north-western Spain, viticulture here dates to Roman times and the regions cool nights and short but hot summers, moderated by Atlantic breezes, create a superb climate for the cultivation of Tinta de Toro (the local synonym for Tempranillo) and Garnacha. The Verdejo wines grown in neighbouring Rueda, are fresh, highly aromatic wines, offering an excellent counter balance to the power of the region’s reds.

Bodegas Piedra has the largest holding of old vine plots in the region and produces a range of wines, both for long term cellaring and immediate pleasure.

The soil is stony alluvial, with a sandy surface, light and poor in organic matter, and a clay subsoil that helps maintain the little water that the land receives. Its continental climate, influenced by the Atlantic, causes a great thermal difference between days and nights. With long, cold winters and short but intense summers.

The wines are all fully organic, with minimal handling in the winery and the vineyard. Not only are these wines impressive in their quality, they represent incredible value. The labels depict the local flora and fauna of the region.
