Ascari Enoteca hosts Barolo winemaker Oscar Arrivabene of Domenico Clerico on Wednesday, May 3.

When Barolo comes knocking, you open your doors… wide. Especially for one of the most well respected names in Barolo who has been recognised as being “one of the most gifted winemakers in Piedmont.” We’re feeling pretty lucky to be hosting our second Up Close & Personal guest from Barolo this year. This time we are excited to welcome Oscar Arrivabene, winemaker for Domenico Clerico, from Monforte d’Alba, the heart of Barolo.

ABOUT DOMENICO CLERICO

Domenico took over his father’s 4-5 hectare vineyard in 1976, who at the time was growing grapes that he sold to the wine cooperative and markets of the area. Since then he has amassed 21 hectares holding vineyards in some of the greatest crus of Monforte, taking his father’s ‘grower’ company and turning it into one of the most renowned producers in Barolo. Domenico is a ‘vignaiolo’ passionately promoting the importance of the relationship between the grape and the terroir in wine-making, which is made apparent in his choice to produce single-vineyard wines that distinctly represent the personality of their land.

If you want to hear Oscar tell you the more romantic version of Domenico’s story, and get a chance to taste the fruits of their labour, please join us on Wednesday, May 3rd, from 6PM onward.

These are the wines’s Oscar will be pouring:

  • 2014 Dolcetto ‘Visadi’ (small but mighty)
  • 2011 Barolo Classico
  • 2010 Barolo ‘Ciabot Mentin’
  • 2010 Barolo ‘Pajana’

This is not a ticketed event but we highly recommend making a reservation if you’re going to have dinner. If you can’t make it for dinner then drop by later for a flight of beautiful wines, and a chat with Oscar.

For reservations, please call 416.792.4157

We hope to see you there.

ABOUT UP CLOSE & PERSONAL

At Ascari Enoteca we have been fortunate to meet many of the unique personalities behind the wines we pour. We would like you to meet them too. We consider our ‘Up Close & Personal’ wine series as the anti-wine dinner; a continuing series of commitment-free evenings, conceived of as an alternative to expensive, multi-course winemaker dinners. We will be welcoming winemakers from around the world and closer to home. In addition to our regular menu and wine list, we will be offering a selection of their wines by the glass or by the bottle. Our guests will be spending evenings with us pouring their wines at your table, chatting about anything you may find interesting, sharing their passion and having a glass and a plate of food themselves.

If you enjoy hearing the winemakers tell you their stories and the stories of their wines, these are rare opportunities to personally meet the people behind the bottles and the labels. Ask them anything, or just relax and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
