New Wines at Vintages

Profile Wine Group presents nine new wines now available at the LCBO…

Look for these nine new wines in this week’s Vintages Release…

Montes Purple Angel 2017
LCBO# 62364 | $69.95

With this new vintage, Purple Angel shows a deep, carmine-red colour, typical of Carmenère. The aromas are complex, with pronounced black fruit, like blackberry and ripe blueberry. There is also dried plum, cooked cherry and candied fruit. Its 18 months in French oak gives a complex nose of toasted aromas, nuts, sweet spice and touches of dairy and vanilla. On the palate, the flavours follow on from the aromas, with sensations of dark fruit and dairy well balanced with the toast. It is finely balanced, with good body and a long finish. 92% Caménère, 8% Petit Verdot

“A cult classic, lush and elegant produced from 92% Caménère and 8% Petit Verdot grapes. Opaque in the glass rich with blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, ripe cherry, bell pepper, thyme, sweet spice and silky dark chocolate. Consistently great, this wine has it all. Pair with filet mignon and date night.” 99 Pts – Natalie MacLean, May 2, 2020

“Complex aromas of ripe cherries, black truffles and dried flowers, such as lavender and rose petals. Full-bodied, tight and solid with chewy tannins, yet it’s polished and refined. Undertones of porcini mushrooms and walnut rind. Energetic and focused. Drinkable now, but better in 2022.” 95 Pts – James Suckling, July 21, 2020

“Black ruby color. Interesting aromas of cured meats, intense berry concentrate, oregano, ginger-honey-lemon lozenge, eucalyptus, hints of bacon, and raspberry cake with a round, crisp, fruity medium-full body and a warming, intriguing, medium-long ripe plum, blistered berries, rooibos tea, and hint of tropical fruit finish with moderate oak flavor. J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
LCBO# 686584 | $49.95

“The 2018 J. Lohr Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon is effusive with fresh varietal aromas of black cherry and hints of toasted pastry and baking spice on the nose. Dense and soft on the palate. Elegant layers of black and red currants leave a bright finish.” – Brenden Wood, red winemaker

Food pairing: Delicious with rosemary-seasoned ribeye and garlic roasted potatoes with parsnips and fennel.

“This widely available bottling remains a very wise choice for the price point. Dark in the glass, it begins with cassis, pie crust and baking spice on the nose, yet there’s a savory black-olive touch as well. Firm yet polished tannins carry dark fruit, cocoa and light licorice through the dense palate.” 93 Pts & Editors’ Choice – Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2021

Gloria Riserva is the perfect blend of three highly selected Portuguese grape varieties, creating a majestic wine that offers a lot more than expected. “Piquant spice, cherry/berry fruit and wisps of earthy and gamy note aromas abound. It blankets the palate with a full-bodied, full-flavoured, full-Monty surge of palate flavours—rich, ripe black raspberry and cassis robed in spice, herbs and lip-smacking tang persisting through the lengthy finish and aftertaste. There’s deft balance, depth, concentration of flavours and careful cellaring potential—drink now to 2030 with a thick, prime cut of beef, grilled to (your) perfection.” 91 Pts & Exceptional – Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com, September 13, 2020
