Just across the Rhone river from the beautiful vineyards of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Lirac appellation extends itself on the low hills alongside the river. The history of Château de Montfaucon dates back to the 11th century when the castle’s first tower was built.
Rodolphe de Pins took over the family estate of Montfaucon in 1995 and subsequently rebuilt the winery and began practicing sustainable agriculture. The wines express elegance and great structure, built upon layers of nuance and fruit character.
The terroir and winemaking history of Lirac rivals its neighbour, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, in everything but price. The wines represent one of the best values within the southern Rhone while overdelivering on elegance, structure and cellaring potential and Château de Montfaucon is quite simply the cherry on top. If you’re a fan of southern Rhone wines, these are not to be missed!
