Having been curious about the concept of emergency preparedness for the better part of quarter of a century, I was most welcoming of the opportunity to interview the CEO of US start-up Nutrient Survival, Mr. Eric Christianson.

What with him having spent many a year in the Army Rangers, Airborne, and Air Assault, before making the transition to high level marketing positions in “Big Food” (read: Campbell’s Soup, Procter & Gamble, Perdue Chicken), Christianson knows a thing or two about what makes for quality freeze-dried, nutrient-rich survival food. This also gave me the chance to ask him about just how goddamn awful MREs can be!

From wild-eyed conspiracy theorists to suburban housewives, I find it utterly fascinating how given the turbulent 12 months we have all experienced, increasing numbers of regular people are thinking much more seriously about how they would like to be prepared in case of an emergency, whatever that may turn out to be.

We chat about how the ongoing pandemic has drastically changed the demographics of what would be considered a “prepper”, as he identifies a new type of consumer shopping both in stores and online.
