2020 Mee Godard Beaujolais-Villages
The 2020 Domaine Mee Godard Beaujolais-Villages is a round, clean and fruit-driven wine. More concentrated and intense than the 2019, the 2020 shows lush cherry tones and is fleshier and fuller than what we often expect from Beaujolais-Villages. As is typical for all Mee’s wines, look for exceptional extraction, bright floral notes and a velvety mouthfeel. While extremely pleasurable for current drinking, try setting aside a few bottles to track what will undoubtedly be a lovely evolution.
2020 was an extraordinary year in all parts of the world and Beaujolais was no exception. A mild winter lead to early bud burst in mid-March and flowering began around May 20 for most growers. With an extremely hot July and August, growers faced almost drought like conditions. Fortunately, no extreme weather events, like heavy rain or hail meant that the grapes were in optimal condition at harvest. In terms of quantity, yields were down compared to previous vintages and the Gamay grape proved particularly adaptable to the hot, dry conditions. In short this could be a potentially outstanding vintage for Beaujolais.
