Look for these three fine wines this weekend at the LCBO Vintages…

Wakefield Jaraman Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
$24.95 – LCBO# 142398

At release, the wine has a deep crimson red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges. There are lifted aromas of dark cherry fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt. On the palate, this is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of cassis and blackberry fruit along with attractive oak characters of cigar box and tobacco leaf. Overall, the wine is well balanced with complex, well-integrated, elegant tannins providing structure and an intense, persistent length to the finish.

“Minty notes signal Coonawarra. Dried herbs and fresh acidity speak of Clare. Perfumed and very poised. Drinking Window: 2019-2027” 95 Pts – Sarah Ahmed,, May 10, 2019

Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2016
$19.95 – LCBO# 390203

Attractive, bright golden yellow in colour. The intense, complex nose offers tropical fruit aromas such as pineapple, banana, and ripe mango, while pleasing notes of peaches and pears round out the fruity profile. The coastal climate is very much present in the subtle notes of grapefruit and white asparagus. The French oak also compliments the aromatic profile with very elegant and well-integrated toasted notes that recall hazelnut and vanilla. Smooth attack on the palate with perfectly balanced acidity, resulting in a very fresh wine that also has generous volume. This Alpha Chardonnay ends with a long and elegant finish that invites another glass.

“This is a very serious chardonnay with pie-crust and cooked-apple character. Full body, tight and focused. Beautiful and long. Small percentage of new wood and malolactic fermentation. Excellent. Drink now.” 93 Pts – James Suckling, March 16, 2018

Champagne Nicolas Gueusquin Brut 1er Cru Millesime 2013
$48.95 – LCBO# 16171

Pale yellow colour with light shiny green reflections. Very floral aromas of citrus fruits and exotic fruits. In the mouth, same notes with a touch of vanilla.

“This is a great value for 2013, offering excellent verve, structure and freshness. Rich and complex, with a long, lithe, elegant finish that really brings home just what an unbelievable price this is for a vintage Champagne. Serve and sip with seafood appetizers, or enjoy throughout any meal as a palate-cleanser between bites.” Vintages Panel, January 2020
