Zoltan Szabo offers a sneak peek at his tasting notes for the upcoming Charles Baker Riesling Project release…

2010 Charles Baker ‘Picone Vineyard‘ Riesling, Vinemount Ridge – Niagara Peninsula
Apples, floral – spicy white blossoms, Alfalfa honey, mineral and mint – menthol aroma nuances; ripe yet with good acidity, comes across as almost dry, with its 14 grams per liter residual sugar and 11.5% alcohol per volume; it has pleasant weight and round texture, proper balance and serious attractiveness; possessing vintage character and it’s different compared to the previous years, although the vineyard’s strength shines through; the same vineyard and winemaking practices are meticulously maintained; the Anna Huber of Riesling, if matching wines vs. people… It performed well with whole – grilled fatty spigola with drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and lemon a la Nove Trattoria, or try with cabbage rolls (ground pork stuffing) Transylvanian – style ala Castello di Szabo… ($35 at charlesbaker.ca – coming soon…)
