Like many, I can’t believe it’s already August. The grapes have entered veraison, meaning the vines are now concentrating all their energy into ripening the fruit.  This is evident with the gorgeous colour change in our Pinot Noir grapes.  Soon it will be time to drop the netting over our vineyard to thwart the Alfred Hitchcock sized flocks of birds!  We will also be putting up our electric fence to foil the annual pilgrimage of ravenous raccoons from the nearby forests.  County critters aside, with the continued amazing weather, we are still on track for track for our earliest harvest ever.

Each year, we strive to raise the quality bar on all our wines.  The 2010 County Pinot Noir ($35) has all of the wonderful delicacy, purity, and feminine character of the 2009 vintage, but is a hair more concentrated in body, texture, and flavour.  This improvement can not only be attributed to the magnificent growing season of 2010, but also to our increasingly experienced and ever-dedicated vineyard and cellar team.

To celebrate this release, we have teamed up with the culinary talent at Origin Restaurant (Liberty Village, Toronto).  We have perfectly matched all of our County wines – including and especially our 2010 County Pinot Noir – with magical dishes.  This Winemaker Dinner has been aptly named the County Picnic; tempt your senses by viewing the menu here. Hopefully you’ll join us on Sunday, August 12th at Origin to celebrate our latest release!

If not, I hope you’ll visit us in beautiful Prince Edward County this summer.  Tasting bar is open 7 days a week; on weekends, enjoy our wood-fired thin-crust pizza with a glass of wine on our patio overlooking the vineyard.  If you can’t make it out to the County, we can always deliver the County to your table.  Click here to order our wines for home or office delivery; mixed cases are welcome.

Cheers!
Norm
