While the upper echelon of the global wine industry is preparing to flock to Bordeaux for the infamous En-Primeur 2014 vintage barrel tasting, we have prepared over the last year some very interesting LCBO retail releases. All under $20 !!!!

This month we have three stunning selections from outstanding vintages and prominent properties situated on the Bordeaux left bank.

We have chosen to highlight the 2009, 2010 and 2011 vintages. All have been featured in the LCBO Vintages Front Line Release this month. This gems are ready to drink, decant, enjoy. However, they could find a good place in your cellar for 2-5 years.

Of the vintages Robert Parker describes: “2009 will always be the more “fun” vintage because of its more sumptuous, fruit-forward, lower acid wines with soaring aromatics as well as fleshy, exuberant flavors and plush, succulent personalities. Their style vaguely recalls ripe, precocious vintages such as 1982 and 1990…. While massive and highly extracted, the 2010s are also fresh and incredibly pure. Moreover, they will enjoy astonishing longevity.”

2011 was a much cooler vintage in Bordeaux but starting late September and into October the weather was dry allowing additional time for ripening.  2011 is a vintage that is ready to drink.  Parker mentions of the 2011’s that “A lot of good winemaking has produced excellent wines throughout Bordeaux.
