Wines to Look for at the LCBO This Weekend! – COMING TO VINTAGES!

We have seven new products releasing at the LCBO this weekend:

Aurelio Settimo Barolo DOCG 2016  +291559  $51.95

In this truly great vintage our Barolo is bright garnet red with an intense, complex nose showing fruity, floral and spicy notes.  Appealing on the mouth, with delicate tannins and balsamic overtones.  100% Nebbiolo

96 Pts – James Suckling, June 25, 2021

“Gorgeous aromas of roses, tar and cedar with strawberries and plums. It’s full-bodied with layers of lovely fruit and ripe tannins. Sweet and succulent. Such lovely, polished texture. So long and creamy. Clearly an outstanding wine. Great effort here. Try after 2023, but already a joy to taste.”

Lungarotti Rubesco Rosso di Torgiano DOC 2018  +368548  $19.95

Deep ruby red with slight violet hues.  Delicate and with good intensity, elegant complexity with hints of pepper, cinnamon and tobacco; background notes of red-fruit jam and violet.  A wine with solid structure and superb concentration, it evolves with fresh acidity; austere, balanced tannins with a fruity and slightly mineral finish.

100% Sangiovese & Colorino

Food Pairing:  T-bone steak, BBQ with spicy sauce, beef fillet with balsamic condiment and extra virgin olive oil, roast beef with roast potatoes, stewed eel, eggplant caponata, roast chicken, slightly aged cheeses (pecorino, parmigiano), traditional lasagne alla Bolognese, strangozzi pasta with red onion and cheek bacon.  Thanks to its moderate body it is also excellent for preparing sauces.

96 Pts – Luca Maroni, August 4, 2020

Wakefield Wines Jaraman Shiraz 2019  +377036  $24.95

At release, the wine has a deep cerise red colour to the centre with a vibrant purple hue to the edges. There are lifted aromas of black plum and blackberry fruit along with a hint of coffee bean and spice. This is a luscious wine with layers of flavours of dark berry fruit, ripe cherries and plum along with attractive oak characters of roasted coffee beans and spice.  Overall, the wine is well balanced with well-integrated tannins providing the palate with firm structure and persistent length.

95 Pts – Rich Cook, winereviewonline.com, February 2, 2021

“This outfit seems to do no wrong when it comes to Shiraz, from their basic bottlings up to wines north of one hundred dollars. The 2019 Jaraman falls in the center of the portfolio, and it is a gem, as usual. There’s a fine balance struck between the fruit and the menthol, letting both elements show their best. Racy acidity bodes well for a long life, but you won’t have to worry about that – it’s too good right now”

Mazzei Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Ris. DOCG 2018  +288530  $23.95

Fresh, tannic, with aroma of berries, strong structure, earthy and intense taste.  90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot

Food pairing: Pasta with game sauce, stews, grilled red meats, mid-aged cheeses.

94 Pts – James Suckling, August 11, 2021

“Black cherry, bark and earth on the nose with some dark-mushroom character. It’s full-bodied with very soft tannins and a juicy, savory finish. Wet-earth and forest-floor character comes through nicely at the finish. Drink or hold.”

Signorello Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2018  +60152  $124.95

The 2018 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon in its youth shows the potential of an incredible wine that will only develop further with age.  Deep ruby garnet in colour, almost opaque, the wine shows richness, depth and concentration.  Dark fruits dominate the aromatics with black cherry, plum, blackberry and huckleberry showing fruit generosity, interlaced with more complex aromatics of violet, dark chocolate, potpourri and vanilla.  Rich and full bodied, the tannins are structured, yet well refined for its youth with a long lasting finish of coffee, mocha and tobacco.

81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 12.5% Cabernet Franc, 0.5% Malbec

94 Pts – James Suckling, January 27, 2021

“A pretty, plush red with lots of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut character. It’s full-bodied and layered with lots of ripe tannins and a flavorful finish. Still needs time to come together. Juicy and layered, but not overdone. 81% cabernet sauvignon, 12% cabernet franc, 6.5% merlot and 0.5% malbec. Best after 2023.”

J. Lohr October Night Chardonnay Arroyo Seco 2019  +225375  $34.95

“This unique Chardonnay blend provides balanced and complex flavors of ripe orange, orange marmalade, and white peaches, with a rich midpalate and a hint of toasted oak on the long finish.” – Kristen Barnhisel, winemaker, white wine

Food pairing: A perfect pairing to crab cakes with a creamy orange reduction sauce, toasted hazelnut halibut, or seafood risotto.

92 Pts – Mary Ewing-Mulligan, winereviewonline.com, May 4, 2021

“This is one of two 2019 Arroyo Seco Chardonnays from J. Lohr.  The wines undergo the same vinification (direct-pressed grapes, barrel-fermentation with the same yeasts) and only slightly different barrel aging regimens.  The main difference is clonal, and the difference in the two wines is remarkable.  This wine, October Night, is a full-bodied, structured Chardonnay with aromas and flavors that suggest ripe citrus and some tropical fruit with broad, earthy notes.  It’s a powerful Chardonnay in terms of its structure, so much so that the flavors seem understated in comparison.  While this wine was oak fermented and aged, the wine is not oaky.  If you like powerful, characterful but truly dry Chardonnay, this could be your wine.  Impressive quality…”

Chateau de Nages Heritage Vieilles Vignes Organic Red 2019  +40964  $20.95

Brilliant garnet colour.  Lavish, complex array of ripe red berries (raspberry, cherry), pepper, oriental spices and aromatic herbs.  Rich and balanced taste with a fine tannic grain, it reveals spices, licorice and minerality in a long elegant finish.  70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Carignan
