Greystone Pinot Noir All About The Soil

Noble Estates offers a Waipara classic.

In 2000, the Thomas Family purchased a farm in Waipara, New Zealand. From the outset there was one goal; to realize exceptional wines from the unique terroir. The north facing limestone hills slope down to clay – the perfect combination for growing wines with minerality and concentration.

In 2008, the first wine was produced and over the years Greystone has grown amid accolades and acclaim to be recognized as one of New Zealand’s best wineries. In early 2014, they began the conversion from conventional to organic farming.

Pinot Noir famously loves soils with limestone and thus different clones, aspects and blocks were planted to see what was capable from this bare land. As the soil changes down the slope we’ve also planted Chardonnay and Riesling.

2015 Omihi Pinot Noir -$40/blt, Case of 12 – James Suckling Top 100 NZ Wines
Deep dark plum colour with a nose of red and black cherry, and plum. A palate of boysenberry and ripened plum. Long fine-grained tannins with subtle French oak and savory notes support the fruit throughout. Full bodied, elegant, juicy and perfectly balanced.
