This week, we sit down for an extended interview with Inniskillin winemaker Nick Gizuk.

Since he took over the role from his mentor, Bruce Nicholson, I’ve noticed a distinct change in the wines from this historic Ontario estate. Today’s wines are all about purity of fruit, with some astonishing definition.

Last week, Inniskillin were exhibiting their 2021 Montague vineyard and 2021 Reserve Chardonnays at i4C, and I’ll admit that Gizuk has been able to tease a certain vibrancy from the Montague vineyard that I’ve never seen before. Now I can understand why he views this older vineyard as the jewel in Inniskillin’s crown.

Gizuk freely admits that he’s an acid-head, and this certainly shows throughout his entire lineup of wines. We’ll be reviewing a few of them over the coming months.

Take it away, Nick.
