The big bouquet draws us in and doesn’t let go. Violets especially, with bright red strawberries and raspberries too. There’s some oak presence of subtle mocha and vanilla; informing the profile without dominating. The acidity is fresh, the palate smooth and all tannins softly well-integrated. It’s quintessential Pinot Noir for a song! As Carolyn Evans-Hammond described it:
Founded in 1904, Mezzacorona draws from over 100 years of experience and the benefit of numerous microclimates. Hand-harvested fruit finds its way to a modern, state-of-the-art winery that enables the grapes to show their earnest, authentic character. The elegance and structure imparted by the majestic Dolomites is unparalleled. In the words of winemaker Dr. Lucio Matricardi, “I want each wine to be the truest expression of itself and its appellation. Each grape must speak its local dialect, not a global language.”
Pairings and Tips:
Pinot Noir’s versatility is one of its greatest strengths. While always at home with staples like beef bourguignon, herb-fennel pork loin or cedar-planked salmon, this particular wine can honour its Italian origins and slip into any evening with our friends Margherita or Bolognese. Serve slightly chilled.
