Once a sleepy corner of the Fine Wine auction world, wine lovers in Canada have now a plethora of options for stocking their cellars and wine cabinets with the finest collectible wines from around the world. This season, there are a number of exciting auctions that will satisfy buyers from coast to coast in their pursuit of vinous pleasure. Here is a brief rundown of what to expect from forthcoming commercial auctions and charitable sales.


Grapes for Humanity: October 12th-18th

This auction takes place on the Iron Gate Auctions platform and has lots from Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver with proceeds going to battle climate change and the Nature Conservancy of Canada. As well as winemaker dinners and winery packages, there are impressive offerings from Bordeaux and Burgundy (including a rare 1978 DRC Romanée-Conti) and an excellent selection of wines from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Australia and California. The auction also features wines from the personal collection of Rush musician, Geddy Lee, a noted philanthropist and wine collector. Expect bidding to be fierce as the auction winds down. Last years auction raised over half a million dollars.


Toronto Symphony Orchestra Fine Wine Auction:
November 1st-8th

Now in its 31st year and having raised over $7.5 million for the TSO and its programs, the Fine Wine Auction will, once again, be held online on the Iron Gate Auctions platform. Highlighting the sale is a mahogany cased 12 bottle offering that features wines from the esteemed Primum Familiae Vini, whose members include the Antinori, Jaboulet, Torres, Graham and Rothschild families. Expect offerings from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild as well as great wines sourced from local collections who have generously supported this auction for decades.


Iron Gate Auctions Fine Wine and Spirits:
November 11th-18th

Calgary based Iron Gate Auctions final offering of the season will cap a year that has seen the fledging auction house make a serious impact on the Fine Wine market from coast to coast. Iron Gate reports that this offering will be its largest to date with over 800 lots on the block. Highlights will include superb classed growth Bordeaux from a prominent Toronto collector, great vintage DRC, Roumier and Dujac, as well as great opportunities to buy ready to drink Italian IGT and California classics. Iron Gate offers a highly competitive 17.5% buyer’s premium.


Waddington’s Fine Wine Auction:
November 22nd-30th
Waddington’s Fine Wines and Spirits auction marks a year that has seen a succession of white glove auctions. Expect most of the great wine regions of the world to be represented. Buyer’s premium is 20%.
