If you are a fan of Italian reds or sparkling wines but have not discovered Lambrusco, it’s time to break new ground. The Chiarli family has been making Lambrusco in Emilia-Romagna for 160 years (nothing close to new ground for them) – always focusing on a love of their homeland and its traditions, a passion for people, and a pursuit of perfection. The family feels that these values give them an unlimited energy to continue their work, and 160 years later it’s so far, so good.

Chiarli Castelvetro Lambrusco – LCBO #604 – $14.45

100% Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, it opens with raspberry, black currant and violet aromas. Once in the glass the Castelvetro Lambrusco shows plenty of ripe black raspberry and black cherry, a light herbal note and a fresh-fruit sweetness (49g/L). The soft bubble, balanced acidity, and sweet touch make this an exceptional wine for pairing with spicy foods of all kinds – wings, sausages, ribs, tacos, nachos, you name it! More traditional pairings are with rich pasta dishes, pizza, and maybe it’s best partner, charcuterie.
