David Gleave MW is undeniably one of the most admired and respected fellows in the world of wine today.

Back in the mid 90’s he was one of my many teachers at the Glasgow School Of Food Technology as I was going through my WSET Diploma.

I was always both thrilled and confounded by his tutorial sessions; his methods of teaching were so polished, inherently eloquent, erudite, and informed. His commentary upon anything wine related seemed cheeky, and so daringly questioning for a young wine student like myself, but at the same time his words were ultimately sincere, coming from the heart of a man who had both a love and an understanding of wine.

More importantly I remember going home with questions in my mind, seeds that David had surreptitiously planted. And so David Gleave MW is, in some way, to blame for my passion for wine, and the subsequent career trajectory that followed.

David was in town for the Hobbs and Co. Portfolio tasting recently, and we had the chance to speak wine on digital video…
