Today a new generation of chefs is making their mark on the culinary scene in Prince Edward County. One of the more notable stars is Chef Matt DeMille – formerly of Canoe, Parts and Labour and Enoteca Sociale to name but a few.

Today, he calls The County home or, we should say, again. Matt grew up in this region and has returned home with his young family.

We are delighted that the owners of the latest culinary gem, Pomodoro scooped him up to rave reviews. Nestled in the village of Wellington, this new hot Italian Trattoria boasts big flavors, good cheer and a sense of comfort. The décor supports this experience with sand washed bentwood style wood chairs, marble tables, reclaimed tin panels and architectural features preserved from the original 1840’s building.

As we discuss in the video below, the food is the main attraction at Pomodoro. Matt’s menu is based on the traditional flavours of the Italian cuisine – comfort food kicked up a notch. Centered on local, fresh produce, goods and wine, the menu offers a variety of small plates (buffalo arancini, smoked scamorza with smoked tomato aioli), homemade pasta to main course entrees (braised pork torta in pastry, roasted cauliflower & fennel salad).  It’s all about Local here and Matt has embraced it and rocked it out of the park (or field in this case).
